Meet the Children

Sapana | Sapana is also from west Nepal. Her father earned his income from making copper buckets, and he was doing alright until plastic buckets became popular. Because of his deteriorating economic situation, he became depressed. One night, he committed a terrible crime: he killed his wife and one year old son. Sapana was sleeping with her grandmother in another room and escaped a similar fate. The father is now serving a 20 year jail term for his crime.

Sapana continued to live with her 75 year old grandmother, who herself had no means of support. They lived by begging food from the villagers.

A local women's group asked permission to place Sapana in an orphanage, and the grandmother was relieved that she would be taken care of and educated.

Sapana is about nine years old, with a wide and engaging grin, and merry brown eyes. Her outstanding characteristics are her untamed enthusiasm and her loving nature. She enters into any activity with great gusto, and is eager to try new things. It's hard to figure how a child who has suffered such severe trauma so recently in her life can evolve in such a short time into this sweet and happy little being. K House is a magical place!
