Dear Friends:
We're very excited to tell you that the Nepalese Youth Opportunity Foundation was featured in Sunday's San Francisco Chronicle! Meredith May, a reporter for the Chronicle, accompanied me to rural Western Nepal where girls are sold into virtual slavery every year. Online, you can read her article about NYOF's Indentured Daughters Program. This program rescues girls from bonded servitude and reimburses their families with goats.
You can also watch a video about girls who have been sold into servitude and our efforts to save them, filmed by Chronicle photographer Carlos Avila Gonzalez.
Additionally, Meredith wrote an article about how I fell in love with the children of Nepal and how I decided to provide them with the opportunities they deserve.
GlobalGiving Matching Competition
We would like to thank everyone who supported NYOF in the GlobalGiving matching competition! The final numbers haven't been added up yet, but NYOF's supporters gave over $18,000. This means that of the $25,000 of matching funds available, at least $18,000 will provide needy children in Nepal with opportunities that would be impossible without the help of people like you. Now that the contest has ended, you can return to donating directly to NYOF. In addition to checks and credit cards, we accept donations of stock as well as planned giving through your will.
Your donation of just $100 will save a girl from virtual slavery and enable her to go to school for a year, probably for the first time in her life. $350 will rescue a girl from bondage and support her education until she graduates from high school, giving her the skills she needs to be self-sufficient.
Rescue a girl from bonded servitude!
Can You Donate A Projector?
We're very grateful for the donations we have received of computers and related office equipment. These contributions allow us to keep the expenses of our U.S. office low, so we can use as much money as possible to rescue children in Nepal. We are currently in need of a projector that can be connected to a computer, as well as a large screen that it can project on.
Thank you for your support for these needy children. It's a wonderful act of kindness to change the life of someone you will never meet.
Warm regards,
Olga
